1 Kings 18 recounts the showdown between the prophet Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal to call upon their god to send fire to consume their sacrifice, but despite their efforts, nothing happens. Then Elijah calls upon the God of Israel, who sends fire from heaven to consume Elijah’s offering, proving His power and authority.
