Leviticus 10

Leviticus Chapter 10 deals with a somber event involving Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, and provides instructions on priestly conduct.

  • Verses 1-2: Nadab and Abihu offer unauthorized fire before the Lord and are consumed by fire from the Lord because of their disobedience.
  • Verses 3-7: Aaron and his remaining sons, Eleazar and Ithamar, are instructed not to mourn in a way that disrespects their priestly duties, and they obey.
  • Verses 8-11: The Lord gives Aaron specific commands about not drinking intoxicating drink when serving in the tabernacle and about making distinctions between holy and unholy, clean and unclean.
  • Verses 12-15: Instructions are given regarding the consumption and handling of offerings.
  • Verses 16-20: Moses discusses with Aaron and his remaining sons why they did not eat the sin offering, and Aaron provides an explanation which Moses accepts.

Life Applications:

  1. Obedience to God’s Specific Instructions (Verses 1-2): Nadab and Abihu’s disobedience serves as a strong reminder to follow God’s commands meticulously. This can be applied in our lives by paying heed to adhere strictly to God’s word and instructions.
  2. Balance between Grief and Duty (Verses 3-7): Despite the tragic death of Aaron’s sons, he and his other sons continued their priestly duties. We can learn to trust and worship God even in our pain and grief, balancing our personal emotions with our obligations.
  3. Sobriety and Clarity in Service (Verses 8-11): God wanted the priests to serve with clear minds and discernment, which is applicable to us; ensuring that nothing hinders our clarity and effectiveness in serving others and God.
  4. Respect and Reverence (Verses 12-15): The careful handling of the offerings underscores the respect and reverence we should have toward God and the things dedicated to Him.
  5. Integrity and Accountability (Verses 16-20): The accountability demonstrated between Moses and Aaron models how we should hold each other accountable in our walk with God, ensuring we always act with integrity in our service to Him.
