Devo – Exodus 39

Exodus 39 describes the creation of the priests’ garments, which are made precisely according to the instructions provided by God to Moses on Mount Sinai.

  • Verses 1-31: Craftsmen make the priestly garments (ephod, breastpiece, robe, checkered tunic, turban, and sash) using gold and blue, purple, and scarlet yarns, as per the specifications God gave to Moses. The ephod and the breastpiece are crafted with skill, involving the encasing of precious stones, which represent the twelve tribes of Israel.
  • Verses 32-43: After completing the construction of the Tabernacle and its accessories, the Israelites bring them to Moses. Moses inspects all the work and sees that they have followed the Lord’s commands precisely. Consequently, Moses blesses them.

Life Applications:

  1. Obedience to God’s Instructions (Verses 1-31): The craftsmen meticulously followed God’s detailed instructions, showcasing obedience. Similarly, paying attention to God’s word and diligently adhering to it in our lives is vital.
  2. Using Talents for God’s Glory (Verses 1-31): The craftsmen used their skills to create something beautiful for the service of God. This can inspire us to use our unique talents and abilities in service to God and others.
  3. Affirmation and Blessing (Verses 32-43): Moses’ blessing upon seeing the completed work underscores the importance of affirming and blessing those who serve faithfully. It’s a reminder to appreciate and affirm people when they do well and to always offer our work up to God for His blessing and glory.
  4. Unity and Community Involvement (Verses 32-43): The entire community contributed to the construction of the Tabernacle. We too are called to work together in unity within our communities, contributing our parts for the collective good.

This chapter inspires faithfulness, obedience to God, utilizing talents for His glory, and the importance of unity and community in achieving common goals in accordance with God’s will.
