Devo – Exodus 27

Exodus 27 provides detailed instructions for the construction of the altar of burnt offering and the courtyard of the tabernacle.

  1. Altar of Burnt Offering (Exodus 27:1-8):
  • God instructed the Israelites to build an altar made of acacia wood and bronze.
  • The altar was to be hollow, and its measurements were given.
  • It had horns at its corners for sacrificial rituals. Life Application: This altar represents the importance of offering sacrifices to God. In our lives, we can apply this by giving God our best, whether it’s in our work, relationships, or service to others.
  1. Courtyard of the Tabernacle (Exodus 27:9-19):
  • God also provided instructions for the courtyard surrounding the tabernacle.
  • The courtyard was rectangular and enclosed by curtains held up by pillars.
  • The entrance to the courtyard was on the east side. Life Application: The courtyard represents the idea of setting apart a sacred space for worship and reflection. In our lives, we can create environments where we can connect with God and find spiritual solace.
  1. Oil for the Lamp (Exodus 27:20-21):
  • God commanded the Israelites to bring pure olive oil to keep the lamp in the tabernacle burning continually. Life Application: This symbolizes the need for spiritual illumination in our lives. We should regularly seek God’s guidance and keep our spiritual “lamp” burning through prayer, study, and meditation.

These verses from Exodus 27 provide insights into the meticulous instructions God gave to the Israelites for the construction of elements in the tabernacle. They teach us about the importance of dedication, worship, and spiritual illumination in our own lives.
