Devo – Exodus 24

Exodus 24 recounts the covenant ceremony between God and the Israelites.

  1. Verses 1-2: Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders of Israel ascend Mount Sinai to worship God from a distance.
  2. Verses 3-8: Moses reads the Book of the Covenant to the people, and they agree to obey all that God has commanded. Blood from sacrifices is sprinkled on the people as a symbol of their commitment to the covenant.
  3. Verses 9-11: Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel see God, who appears like a sapphire pavement. They eat and drink in God’s presence.
  4. Verses 12-18: God calls Moses to come up Mount Sinai, where he will receive the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments and other instructions. Moses leaves Aaron and Hur in charge during his absence.

  2. Leadership and Delegation: Moses entrusted Aaron and Hur with leadership responsibilities while he was away. This highlights the importance of delegation and teamwork in achieving a common goal.
  3. Spiritual Experiences: The extraordinary encounter with God on Mount Sinai reminds us of the value of seeking spiritual experiences and spending time in God’s presence through prayer, meditation, and worship.
  4. Covenant Relationship: Recognize the significance of the covenant relationship between God and His people. It’s a reminder of God’s faithfulness and our responsibility to remain faithful in return.
  5. The Importance of God’s Word: Moses read the Book of the Covenant to the people. We should value and study God’s Word as a guide for our lives.
