Psalm 68 is a celebratory hymn that exalts God’s power, majesty, and his care for the vulnerable. It begins with a call for God to arise and scatter his enemies. It recounts God’s mighty acts in Israel’s history, including the Exodus and the journey to Mount Sinai. It acknowledges God’s presence in the sanctuary and praises Him as a father to the fatherless and a defender of the oppressed. The psalm concludes with a procession to the sanctuary and a call to the nations to praise God.
Life Applications:
- Trust in God’s power (Verse 1): Just as the psalmist calls on God to rise up against his enemies, we should trust in God’s power to overcome challenges in our lives.
- Remember God’s faithfulness (Verse 6-7): Reflect on God’s past faithfulness, as the psalmist does with the Exodus, to strengthen your faith in difficult times.
- Care for the vulnerable (Verse 5): God is a father to the fatherless and protector of the oppressed. We should follow His example by showing compassion and support to those in need.
- Seek God’s presence (Verse 24): Just as the sanctuary was a place of God’s presence for the Israelites, seek to be in God’s presence through prayer, worship, and meditation.
- Join the procession of praise (Verse 24-27): Be part of the joyful procession of people praising God. Participate in community worship and celebrate His goodness together.
- Share the good news (Verse 31-32): The nations are called to acknowledge and praise God. As believers, we can share the message of God’s love and salvation with people from all nations.
