Devo – Exodus 9

Exodus 9 is a chapter in the Bible that describes a series of plagues sent by God upon Egypt as a part of the story of the Israelites’ liberation from slavery.

  1. Exodus 9:15-16 – God’s Sovereignty: These verses highlight God’s power and sovereignty over all creation. We can apply this by recognizing that God is in control of our lives, even in challenging times.
  2. Exodus 9:27 – Repentance and Humility: Pharaoh’s confession of sin in this verse shows the importance of repentance and humility. We should be willing to admit our wrongdoings and seek forgiveness.
  3. Exodus 9:29 – Prayer and Intercession: Moses’ prayer for the removal of the plague demonstrates the effectiveness of intercessory prayer. We can learn to pray for others and seek God’s mercy.
  4. Exodus 9:34-35 – Hardened Hearts: Pharaoh’s stubbornness and hardened heart led to suffering. We should be cautious not to let pride and stubbornness prevent us from making wise choices.
  5. Exodus 9:20 – Fearing God: Some Egyptians heeded God’s warning and sheltered their livestock. We can apply this by recognizing the importance of fearing God and obeying His commands.
  6. Exodus 9:18 – Honesty and Integrity: Moses’ warning about bringing in livestock and servants before the hailstorm teaches us the value of honesty and keeping our promises.
  7. Exodus 9:23 – God’s Elemental Power: The hailstorm demonstrates God’s power over nature. It reminds us of our dependence on God’s provision and protection in the face of natural disasters.
