Devo – Exodus 7

Exodus 7 contains the account of Moses and Aaron’s confrontation with Pharaoh, including the first plague, the turning of the Nile into blood.

  1. Leadership and Obedience (Exodus 7:1-2): Moses and Aaron’s obedience to God’s instructions despite Pharaoh’s resistance teach us about following divine guidance even in challenging situations.
  2. Persistence in the Face of Opposition (Exodus 7:3-5): Despite Pharaoh’s hardened heart, Moses and Aaron were persistent in their efforts to bring about change. This teaches us to stand firm in our convictions even when faced with resistance.
  3. Confronting False Beliefs (Exodus 7:8-13): Aaron’s staff becoming a serpent and the magicians’ attempts teach us the importance of discerning between true and false beliefs, and the need to rely on God’s power over human deception.
  4. The Consequences of Pride (Exodus 7:14-18): Pharaoh’s stubbornness led to the suffering of his people. This warns us about the dangers of pride and how it can negatively impact not only ourselves but those around us.
  5. The Impact of Environmental Disruptions (Exodus 7:19-25): The Nile turning to blood affected Egypt’s livelihood. This reminds us of our responsibility to care for the environment and the potential consequences of neglecting it.
  6. God’s Sovereignty (Exodus 7:16): God’s declaration that He would show His power through the plagues highlights His sovereignty over all creation. This reminds us of God’s control over our lives and circumstances.
  7. The Importance of Honoring God (Exodus 7:17): The Nile turning to blood was a direct challenge to Egypt’s reverence for their river gods. This encourages us to prioritize honoring the one true God above all else.
  8. Lessons from Nature (Exodus 7:19): The natural world can reflect spiritual truths. The transformation of water into blood reminds us of the need for a cleansing and transformation in our own lives.
