Devo – Genesis 29

Genesis 29 recounts how Jacob meets Rachel and Laban in Paddan-aram (verse 1). Jacob helps Rachel water her sheep, discovers she’s his relative (verses 2-6), and Laban welcomes him (verse 13). Jacob falls in love with Rachel and agrees to work for Laban for seven years for her hand in marriage (verse 18-20). After seven years, Laban deceives Jacob by giving him Leah instead (verses 21-25). Jacob agrees to work another seven years for Rachel (verse 27). It highlights themes of deception, love, and the consequences of one’s actions.

My application: This chapter reminds me of the importance of being careful in making commitments and trusting others (verse 25). Just as Jacob faced deceit, I should be cautious in my dealings and relationships. Also, Jacob’s perseverance in working for what he loved teaches me the value of patience and dedication (verse 20). Sometimes, life’s journey may take longer than expected, but with determination, I can overcome challenges and achieve my goals.
