Devo – Day 18 / Psalms 18

In the first part, David thanks God for rescuing him from difficult situations when he felt hunted and persecuted. He vividly describes how God’s intervention was like earthquakes, fire, storms, and lightning, leading to David’s victory and security (Psalm 18:2–19).

David gives credit to God for his rescue and praises Him for rewarding his righteousness. Though not perfect, David aimed to honor and obey God. This section highlights the importance of humility before God, with mercy for the merciful and ruin for the arrogant (Psalm 18:20–27).

After thanking God for rescue, David celebrates his victories empowered by God. His military success was impressive, with metaphors like being agile as a deer or strong enough to bend a bronze bow. Those opposing God saw no help and many submitted to David due to divine intervention, making Israel safe (Psalm 18:28–45).

The psalm closes by summarizing the themes – God is the foundation of David’s life and reason for his success, leading to praise and celebration (Psalm 18:46–50).
