Devo – James 1

PM reading James 1 thoughts:

In James 1, there’s a discussion about “humble circumstances,” advising those in that social position to take pride in their high position. James also warns the rich to prioritize true faith over material possessions.

A key piece of advice I found in James 1, are in verses 19-20, which emphasizes the importance of being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. This advice holds particular relevance when I think of social media, which often encourages hasty responses contradicting this wisdom and quickly posting segments of videos, articles and responses, many times out of context to fit a desired agenda.

Verse 21 adds another aspect to consider in our lives: removing moral “filth” and accepting the word planted within us humbly, as it can save us.

Lastly, it’s crucial to recognize the significance of caring for both others and ourselves (community), as emphasized in the final verses, such as James 1:27.
