Devo- Day 9/Psalms 9

Day 9 / Psalms 9 thoughts:

In my research I read that this psalm was probably meant to be sung to a particular tune of David’s time. Plus, this psalm follows this cool pattern where each section starts with a different letter of the Hebrew alphabet is what I read too. Super cool.

Psalm 9 kicks off with David’s plan to give a big shout-out to the Lord and praise Him for all the awesome stuff He’s done. David’s probably talking about the military victories that Israel scored against their enemies. He pictures these enemies stumbling around, unable to escape because God’s power is so strong.

Then, David goes on to sing God’s praises as the ultimate judge who brings righteous justice. When he talks about “the nations,” he’s talking about all the non-Israelite folks, basically the wicked world. God wipes them out so completely that they’re completely forgotten. No trace of those wicked nations remains.

But hey, God’s not just a judge. He’s also this eternal, powerful ruler. He hands out justice and righteousness from His super high position. David describes God as a safe haven for the oppressed, like a super fortified fortress. When the wicked world attacks, those who trust in the Lord can find refuge in Him. He never abandons or forgets His people. So, naturally, they should give Him props and praise.

After all the talk about God’s righteousness and justice, David’s like, “Yo, God, please save me from these haters who wanna kill me!” David’s plea is all about trust, even though he doesn’t give specific reasons for God to save him. It’s just all about God’s grace. This song connects answered prayers with praising God.

David wraps things up by predicting the total destruction of all who oppose God. Those wicked people and nations who refuse to acknowledge God will be wiped out. But hey, the needy won’t be forgotten, and the poor will always have hope. Even though David’s talking about his own time, this also points to the ultimate victory of Christ when He comes back. David ends Psalm 9 by praying for God to judge the nations, scare them silly, and remind them that they’re just regular people.

Hope my funny laid back version helps you!
